AFY Racing Malaysia led by team boss Ahmad Faez Yahya has an impressive line-up of experienced riders will be deploying two riders in the Superbike and Supersports 600 series.

Ahmad Faez Yahya and Steven Ong will be competing in the Supersports 600 category while Ahmad Zamani Baharuddin and Lee Ching Hooi will take on the challenge in the Superbike class.

“It is going to be a close but exciting season as I predict a competitive grid line up. Nevertheless, we are all set for the season,” said Ahmad Zamani.

The 34-year-old, brother to Cub Prix champion rider Ahmad Fuad Baharuddin, however, has yet to pick his machine for the opening round at the Sepang International Circuit North Track this weekend (April 18-19).

“We have yet to decide on who will be using the 07 model and the 08 machine between me and Ching Hooi. We had tested the bike at Pasir Gudang but we are going to have another test on both machines at SIC on Thursday before making out decision,” said Ahmad Zamani, who finished second in the standings last year.

He also expects a tough season ahead as the grid gossips suggest a number of big names will be hungry for the title with the absence of defending champion Brent Odgers of Pineapple Motorsports.

“Japanese Yasuhiro Kuhara who was sixth last year is rumoured to bring a few more riders from Japan. There are also a number of novice riders graduating this season which can cost some stiff competition,” said Ahmad Zamani.

As for the Supersports 600 category, Ahmad Faez and Steven Ong have shown promising prospects for a title win.

Ong who is the Novice category champion last season will be among the riders to watch this year while Ahmad Faez has managed a respectable seventh place finish in last year’s overall standings.

“The team is all set for the opening round and we hope that everything will work well to spur us for the whole year,” said Ahmad Zamani.
